Digital Fluency Intensive Week 4

Week 4

Today was all about sharing. In 2005 the world changed and it became much easier to share information.Sharing is important for us and our kids. Why is it important for our kids to share their work?

Sharing with a purpose:
We use blogger to share. It is the most effective and safe way to share, it resembles the spaces
our young people want to be on. This can be used by learners and teaches. We need to
share to finish learning.

When creating a Google form the following is advised:

  • Email - Allows your to directly send the form. Add the recipient's address,
  • customise your message and hit send.
  • Link - Share via link. Highlight, copy then paste the link in the desired location.
  • Embed - Copy and paste the embed code to share via Google site or blog.

About Google Maps:

Google My Maps is a service launched by Google in April 2007 that enables users to create custom maps for personal use or sharing. Users can add points, lines, and shapes on top of Google Maps, using a WYSIWYG editor.

About Google Sheets:

Google Sheets is a spreadsheet program included as part of a free, web-based software office suite offered by Google within its Google Drive service. The service also includes Google Docs and Google Slides.

Digital Fluency Intensive Week 3

DFI Week 3

Today we spoke about creativity: The following quote had a great impact on me.
Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a
nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.”

We started off the day by learning how to do live streaming on You Tube.
We are all aware of the dangers of streaming live, and we have to make our
learners attend on these dangers as well.

We learned how to create a playlist: A playlist is a collection of videos. Anybody can
make playlists and share them. This is a safe way to share videos with your class
without giving free access to You Tube.
We had a good time creating Google Drawings. And with some practice
I will be able to create a professional blog.

We can utilise the tools built into google slides to enable
learners how to create and then share.

This was a very good link for slides add on: Easy Accents for Slides add on.
This Add-on allows users to easily insert accents for different
languages directly from a sidebar in their Google Slides.

Now it is time to learn my Pepeha !!!

Digital Fluency Intensive Week 2

Week 2

It was a lovely sunny Friday and today I have learned:

First and foremost these 3 simple words, Learn Create Share or Ako, Hanga, Tohatoha, provide a shared pedagogy across our schools.

We started off the day learning how to make better use of your e mail and how to personalise your mail to make it work for you.

We had a look at our calendars and how to ad and use our calendar not only for work related issues but also to incorporate some personal reminders.

Google Keep is really fast, even on older devices. Adding quick notes is as simple as tapping the text box at the top of the Keep window and typing.

We had a great time sharing in google hangouts, we got connected and just showed me how distance should never be a roadblock in the path of learning and sharing.

I managed to schedule a hangout call for next week Wednesday and am anxious to see if I will be able to manage that.

Google Keep is really fast, even on older devices. Adding quick notes is as simple as tapping the text box at the top of the Keep window and typing — it's best for those times when someone's giving you a phone number or address that you want to remember, but tapping a half-dozen times just to start typing makes you wish you had pen and paper. Just below the quick-note field are the individual buttons for text notes, checklists, voice notes and images, and adding each of them is just as quick.

Just before heading home we personalised our blogs to make it more interesting and eye catching.

Digital Fluency Intensive Week 1

FRIDAY, 8 MARCH 2019

Week 1

It was our first day at Manaiakalani Digital Training today

I started the year as a beginning teacher at Ruapotaka school who forms part of the Manaiakalani cluster.

I enjoyed the history and how Manaiakalani got started and the journey from then up till now.
As a new teacher who is a bit old style, I have to admit that I have a lot to learn. We learned how to work on and introduce google docks. With this knowledge I can go back to class and introduce the use of these documents in a proper way. I've learned that there are many tools that could save me a lot of time, and by gaining knowledge I can work smarter. I also created my first blog. This is a tool that I will definitely be able to use in my professional career. I found the day very productive and informative.

The course was presented very professional, creative and efficient. I also enjoy the fact that we are a small group and can get personal attention and help when needed.

I am happy that everything I have learned today could be used by me in my daily life, and hopefully I can share this knowledge with my colleges at school.

Today I learned.... I created... and I shared!!! That's what I call a good day.
